Parkinson Voice Project Awards National SPEAK OUT!® Program Development Grant to Summit Therapy

April 11, 2023, McKinney, Texas: – Parkinson Voice Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has named Summit Therapy as a recipient of its National SPEAK OUT!® Program Development Grant.

Summit Therapy has been awarded two grants; one for each outpatient clinic location in Frisco and McKinney, Texas.

Grant recipients include universities, hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, and nonprofit organizations.

The SPEAKOUT!Ⓡ Program Development Grant includes training for qualified speech language pathologists, therapy supplies, and resource funding from Parkinson Voice Project. Summit Therapy is committed to developing a program that combines individual and group therapy that will restore speaking abilities.

“Partnering with our grant winners will allow us to bring Parkinson Voice Project’s highly effective speech therapy program to communities in need of these services. Our goal is to reach more people living with Parkinson’s and restore their speaking abilities. Providing training, funding, and resources to dedicated new partners is a crucial part of the process,” said Parkinson Voice Project’s CEO and Founder, Samantha Elandary.

Parkinson’s affects more than 1 million people in the U.S., and up to 90% are at high risk of losing the ability to communicate. Left untreated, loss of speech greatly impacts one’s quality of life, including conversational speech for everyday life activities. Swallowing can also be affected and be life-threatening. Parkinson Voice Project’s program preserves the voices of individuals with neurological disorders through intensive speech therapy, research, education, and community awareness.

“The SPEAK OUT!Ⓡ Program is not only a voice program focused on strengthening the muscles utilized for strong, clear speech; it also creates a supportive community of individuals who get to experience the journey of finding their true voice again, together,” said Madeline Kirk, CCC-SLP, and Grant Program Coordinator for Summit Therapy, Frisco. Jennifer Reed, CCC-SLP, will be the Grant Program Coordinator for Summit Therapy, McKinney.

“We want families in Frisco, McKinney, and across Texas to know we understand their concerns and are here for them. Our speech pathologists are here to increase their quality of life and maintain their independence through effective voice, swallowing and speech therapy,” said Amanda Ahmed, Owner and Clinical Director for Summit Therapy.

“We sincerely thank Parkinson Voice Project for supporting Summit Therapy’s vision to develop a comprehensive program to help people through groundbreaking therapy, both in-person and via tele-health, utilizing the amazing SPEAKOUT!Ⓡ Program. People across Texas will no longer feel isolated with our help. Our team is dedicated to continuing the important therapy and research that serves patients living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. It is an honor to be awarded,” said Ahmed.
